Margaret - Hôtel Chouleur

I really, really wanted to love this hotel. The entry courtyard is beautiful, the location is excellent, and the public spaces drop dead gorgeous. Most of all, the staff is absolutely lovely. (And the Christmas decor installed during my 4 night stay was over the top spectacular!) So I hope the comments below will be received as constructive feedback because with a few changes, I would be happily rating the hotel all five or more stars.. The room (#8) was very spacious and had a terrace, but after the first WOW of eye candy the mustard color scheme and lack of sufficient lighting made even a sunny day feel gloomy. Thank goodness my phone has a flashlight, because I actually had to use it to make coffee! The bed was super comfortable yet the side chairs are too small and uncomfortable to sit in for reading, snacking. In the bath, fortunately there's a hand shower to supplement the trendy but no hook to use it as a shower. And to use either shower method, you have to step into a 30" high sided bathtub with no grab bars, no slip mat, and the controls can only be accessed from inside the tub because they are otherwise unreachable behind a fixed glass divide. The architect did an amazing job on this beautiful old building in this beautiful city. A few minor changes would make this lovely hotel everything it could and should be.
